MOSCOW, May 30 (PRIME) -- Russians mined cryptocurrencies worth 50–60 billion rubles in 2022, Skolkovo Fintech Hub Director Pavel Novikov said on Tuesday at a conference.
The miners used about 1 gigawatt of electricity, Novikov said.
He explained the high effectiveness of mining in the country by a popular practice of illegal exploitation of electric power.
Earlier in May Anatoly Aksakov, head of the financial market committee at the parliament’s lower house State Duma, said that Russia should legalize the cryptocurrency faster.
